Our Dental Implant Treatment Philosophy

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants in Stockton

Q: Where should I go for dental implants? How do I choose a dentist?

A: Stockton, California is a very big city and there are many options for where to have your dental implant procedure performed. In fact, you may have so many options that it may be overwhelming and you may not know where to go.

One way to decide which office to have your dental implant procedure done is to shop by price. If you shop around long enough, you may find what you feel is a ‘bargain’ for dental implants. If the procedure is very simple, maybe the ‘bargain’ location is a reasonable choice.

Q: Am I a candidate?

A: If you are missing a tooth, you might be a candidate for dental implants. The main factor that will determine if an implant can be placed is the amount of bone available at the missing-tooth site. We must also consider your overall health. Some things that will negatively affect the outcome of dental implant procedures is uncontrolled medical conditions and taking medications called bisphosphonates which are sometimes prescribed for osteoporosis.

Q: Is old age a problem?

A: Old age is not a contraindication for dental implants. In fact, most patients seen by prosthodontists are in their "golden years." However, some chronic diseases such as diabetes may have a negative effect on dental implants when the disease is not controlled. We can conduct a thorough evaluation and determine if there is anything in your medical history that may be a concern for dental implant treatment. We will take special percautions accordingly.

Q: Is the treatment painful?

A: Any surgical procedure will generally cause some level of discomfort. However, patients typically report that a single implant placement does not cause much more than minor soreness. When the procedure is more complex, such as with multiple implant placement and with additional procedures such as bone grafting, the post operative discomfort will increase. We will make sure to give you pain medication as well as antibiotics to help you have a speedy and comfortable recovery.

Q: What if I don't live in Stockton?

A: Depending on the complexity of your case, we may be able to delivery same day treatment. However, all dental implant procedures require multiple visits--no matter what others may say on their advertisements. Our office is located 15 Minutes from Stockton Metropolitan Airport and 45 minutes from Sacramento International. If you live far away, it may be best to set up a phone consultation first, so that we can be well prepared to offer you the most expedient as well as high-quality treatment.
